Featherweight Maintenance Class with Ranell Hansen
Sunday, September 13, 2026
Noon to 3pm (Please be prompt, classes start on time.)
One of our most popular classes. In this class we will be talking about your Featherweight and discussing every aspect of its care, maintenance, appearance and function. This class is not intended to replace needed repair, but will emphasize basic preventative maintenance. You will learn, hands on, the things you can do to keep your machine running optimally.
You will need to bring:
Your Featherweight in its case
Any attachments you have
3 screw drivers (small, medium and large with a long blade)
Lightweight sewing machine oil (available to purchase at the store)
Singer motor lubricant (available to purchase at the store)
Two or three soft cloth rags (old white t-shirts are great)
A small hand towel to set your machine on while you work on it
A pair of disposable rubber gloves (the kind they use at the doctor’s office, not dishwashing gloves) Optional…this is if you don’t like to get greasy.
Some scrap fabric to test your machine with, muslin or a solid color
The thread you usually use
Small scissors or thread snips
I recommend purchasing the "Featherweight Maintenance Card” from Roxanne’s. I will be referring to it. Also, a great reference book with lots of interesting information is Featherweight 221, The Perfect Portable by Nancy Johnson Sebro, also available from Roxanne’s.
