Designed by June Bird
June Bird was born circa 1955 at Mulga Bore in Utopia. She is a talented Aboriginal artist. M&S Textiles Australia printed one of her earlier design called Body Painting. This design has been very popular with our customers.
An important part of a woman’s role in traditional Aboriginal culture is to collect (gather) bush foods like beans, apples, tomatoes, cherries etc. in a wooden bowl called coolamon. Yams are also collected by digging into the soil with digging sticks.
June, being an experienced designer, skillfully drew the fallen bush plums on the web of walking paths marking the land for the collectors of Bush plums and other fruits. They eat the plums and make beautiful dough for tasty breads.
Aboriginal Designs from Australia are printed on beautiful 100% cotton fabric by M & S Textiles. They are colorful, artful and have a smooth soft feel.
These designs contain visions of wild desert flowers, dancing spirits, spirit people, animals, winds and currents, and depict parts of authentic Aboriginal life.
We hope you enjoy using them in your quilts as much as we do. We have many more in our shop, call us if you would like to see them.
